Spain! Well, why not ?

Why not tour Opera North Community Choir to Europe?! Lol, well, I guess the astronomical cost is a bit of a factor, but you see It all begins with an idea. The World Choir Games in Auckland 2024 was this super-charged, incredibly invigorating event. Emma Couper formed a small chamber choir from our membership and moulded us into a competitive singing group. It was hard yakka. We loved it.

And I found myself thinking afterwards, imagine if everyone in the choir had been able to experience this? Imagine where we’d be as a choir, if we continually strove for this level of musical connection, accuracy, memorisation?

Well, it didn’t take long to start getting invitations to choir festivals around the world - personalised algorithms being what they are! Slowly I realised, we could do this, we could at least try to take the full choir overseas and the bonding, learning, and development would be exponential!

Now its 2025 and we’ve decided to shoot for the moon. We’re aiming to get to Callella, Spain in October 2026 to participate in the SING FOR GOLD Choir Festival! Now startss the epic fundraising task! AND developing a body of acapella repertoire incorporating te reo Māori to represent our unique connection to Te Tai Tokerau, for our community choir to share with the world.

Feel free to help in that area by the way - you can make donations anytime!
