Opera North's annual 'not opera' concert!
This years ‘not opera’ concert was a sold out event with outstanding local singers, shared table platters and fine wine with a musical programme that dances between continents and genre’s with wild abandon, a little arty, a lot contemporary, unexpected, familiar in places, surprising in others!
Opera North’s Musical Director for 2025 Maria Satterfield created her final show with Opera North, hoping to leave the audience spellbound by the breadth of talent in Whangārei! She was supported by Sarah Whittles, as co creative director, Roger McClean and Delwyn Rusk as musicians and advisors. They were also be joined by Ana Erčulj of Slovenia, Master Conductor, on her first trip to Aotearoa, for a never to be repeated one-night-only show in Whangārei.

It was an indulgent Matariki night out with friends that did not disappoint! The show began in Te Reo, moved to Latin, then English and finally Slovenian. Every member of the chorus featured in a smaller ensemble, and we were thrilled to find that this years chorus included 10 teenagers, including an entire family (Thanks Sileć Fam!).
